Mario Simon studied German Literature and Cultural Studies, Film and Media Studies, and Philosophy at the University of Bonn, TU Dortmund and FernUniversität in Hagen.
His artistic career began at Schauspiel Dortmund under Kay Voges, where from 2013 to 2020 he worked as assistant director, video artist and later head of the video department. There he significantly shaped the visual language of numerous productions, collaborating with Kay Voges ("Die Borderline Prozession", "Die Parallelwelt"), Claudia Bauer, Jörg Buttgereit, Klaus Gehre ("Minority Report – Der Live-Film") and the collective sputnic.
From 2019 to 2025 he was in charge of media production and technology at the Academy for Theatre and Digitality. Since 2025, Mario Simon has been part of the artistic video department at Schauspiel Köln.
